Seven election observers (Belarus, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Moldova, Ukraine and Poland) representing non-governmental organizations which are members of the Civil Society Forum of the Eastern Partnership observed the Presidential election in Georgia on October 27, 2013. The observers were well received and had an intensive programme of meetings and training sessions with local NGO’s, representatives of the media, main contenders and government officials.

An incident between three staff members of Georgian Associaiton of Young Lawers (GYLA) and the Head of the Headquarters of Ajara Ministry of Internal Affairs, Valerian Telia occurred in Batumi on 28 March.  The same day, the Ministry of Internal Affairs issued a special statement on the incident noting that the driver of GYLA, Roman Partenadze, was drunk when driving the car; to compund the problem, he did not obey the traffic signs and created exigent conditions to the car driven by Mr. Telia.

S T A T E M E N T

The Georgian National Platform of the Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum welcomes the steps taken by Georgia’s executive and legislative branches of government towards European integration, chiefly: successful ongoing talks on a European Union Association Agreement, the adoption of the action plan for visa liberalization with the EU, and the unanimous passage in the Parliament of a resolution on Georgia’s general foreign policy direction.
